If you are in the field, at the desk or in the factory on the 6th June and feel a tremour in the earth's surface, then you will know that the over 5,000 strong Federation of Labour is on the march.
There will be two bands in attendance during the parade and there will be such international personalities as Ken Sterling, Executive Secretary of CADORIT of the ICFTU, Jim Bury representing the AFL-CIO, Nicholas Zonarich of the United Steel Workers of America and Jim O'Hara, Secretary of the New York Hotel Trades Council.
Flags and banners representing every trade and Island in the Bahamas will be in abundance to herald a new day in mankind's struggle for bread, peace and freedom.
The ceremonies will begin at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday the 5th of June with a convention at the Federation Hall.
At 6 a.m. on Friday, 6 of June, special Labour Day religious services will be conducted through the courtesy of the Episcopal, Roman Catholic, Baptist and other denominations in the Bahamas.
At 9.30 a.m. there will be tours of the Labour Department, Public Treasury and the Post Office through the courtesy of the Colonial Secretary and the heads of the Departments. At 3.30 p.m. there will be a meeting at the Southern Recreation Grounds at which His Excellency the Governor will deliver the Labour Day message.
The festivities will be climaxed by a dance at the Cat and Fiddle on Friday night.
To commemorate the occasion the Federation is printing over 5,000 copies of 'The Workers' Voice.
